Spicer Cub became famous for his second place finish at Pimlico in which he bolted to the outside rail two times during the race, but managed to regain his speed and finish in a photo finish. In the Maryland Million Starter Handicap, this colt making only the third race of his career, fractured his left hind leg and underwent surgery on October 23, 2013 and is expected to make a full recovery.
Spicer Cub, although hard to analyze from this photo, is well-muscled with a deep chest and heart-girth. His neck looks to be very thin with a thin throatlatch. His legs appear thin, but strong.
