Perhaps one of the greatest racehorses ever to live, Man O’ War was a nearly undefeated racer. In 21 starts, he was defeated only by Upset in the 1919 Sanford Stakes. He is probably most famous for his match race against the 1919 Triple Crown winner, Sir Barton. He won by 16 lengths.
Man O’ War is a beautiful specimen of equine conformation. His throatlatch is defined, his neck ties in high and his body is very well muscled. His legs all look straight, with his hocks equal to his knees and his cannons short. His hindquarters are especially muscled, partly explaining his incredible stride length between 25 and 28 feet.
