Smarty Jones is the winner of the 2004 Derby and Preakness. He just missed the Triple Crown after losing his four length lead and finishing 2nd in the Belmont.
Smarty Jones appears more like a Quarter Horse than a Thoroughbred. He is very well muscled, especially over his shoulders and hindquarters. He has a very short back, allowing for easy collection which could be especially beneficial when he springs from the starting gate. His front legs look very thin compared to his rear legs. Yet, a straight line can be dropped from the point of the elbow down the back of his leg. This is similar for the hind legs, with the drop line meeting the point of his buttock, point of hock and then runs down the back of the cannon.
