Just 16 years later in the same race (in 2006) Pine Island dislocated her left front fetlock. On the back stretch she broke-down, but after being trailered off-track she was humanly euthanized due to multiple suspected fractures and tissue damage.
Reliable photos of Pine Island were difficult to find, based off combining her injury photo with the one of her racing I would conclude that her ribs are not extremely well sprung, but her stifles are pointed slightly outward, allowing for a large range of motion for her rear legs. She has a very thin neck and small head. Her legs appear straight, and I can conclude that three of the four legs (not including the injured leg) did not have any conformational flaws seen in the photo.
